Sweet Carolina, bah bah bah! Yup. That’s me. I’m Caroline! My dear friends at Carolina Skiff have sponsored me to educate you guys about the threats we sea turtles face when it comes to commercial trawl fisheries. I wanna tell y’all a quick story. It was a beautiful day, sunny skies and crystal clear waters. I was just swimming around minding my own business when BAM. I got picked up in this really big weird looking net. In this net were lots of shrimp, and some other of my ocean friends like sharks and rays. We were all so scared and we didn’t know what to do! The shark told me we were stuck in a trawl net, and there should be a trap door called a Turtle Excluder Device (TED) somewhere to help us escape. Luckily, he was right and we made it out safe and sound. Not the shrimp though, oh those poor shrimps! I later found out that these trawl nets are pulled by boats to catch a specific thing, but it ends up catching all kinds of other creatures, like sea turtles, too! Please cheer me on in this race to help raise awareness about this threat. You could potentially be saving some of my turtle buddies!
